Indigenous Advocacy: Meet the Team

A man in a suit with text '7 Directions of Service' and signature 'Kam'.

Kam Watkins

Indigenous Organizer

Kam Watkins (he/him) is an Indigenous organizer at Seven Directions of Service in Burlington, North Carolina, a U.S. Army veteran, and a proud member of the Occaneechi Saponi Nation. With over a decade of research experience in nationalism and nationality movements, Kam brings a unique, scholarly perspective to his work, focusing on Indigenous sovereignty, cultural preservation, and social justice.

Raised in Little Texas, Kam has been dedicated to advocating for Indigenous peoples and has long been involved in his community. He volunteers for village workdays, turkey shoots, and powwows—activities that strengthen cultural ties and celebrate Native traditions. As an organizer, Kam leads initiatives to promote Indigenous rights, wellness, and cultural sustainability, ensuring that Native voices are prioritized and respected.

As a U.S. Army veteran, Kam brings a disciplined, strategic approach to his advocacy, combining military leadership with a deep commitment to justice and equality for Indigenous communities. Outside of his professional work, Kam is a personal trainer, passionate about promoting holistic health. He enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, drawing, and writing—activities that nurture both body and mind and help him stay grounded and connected to the natural world.
